natsume soseki memorial museum tokyo, waseda, tokyo

I love Natsume Soseki and there is a museum dedicated to him in Waseda, Natsume Soseki Memorial Museum, Tokyo. It’s built on the site where he used to live and it is a beautiful building inside.

Here’s a link to the walking map.

Soseki cafe with two coffees

There is also a cafe inside and I did like the coffee. We didn’t get any of the sweets because they were sold out of the 空也もなか but I don’t think we missed much.

veggie cafe, taco rice

For lunch we went to Cafe VG which is a veggie place and was lovely.

I was glad to visit the Soseki ...

a day in okutama

Happy belated Mountain Day! To celebrate, we went to Okutama・奥多摩 , Tokyo Prefecture. It took a bit over 2 hours to get there from over the other side of Tokyo, so we were up at 5:45 on a Saturday morning. We managed to get seats on the trains, which was my number one concern of the day and the trains are cool, so not a bad place to be in the middle of Japanese summer. When we arrived, they were gearing up for the festival, with stalls lining the streets but they weren’t open whilst we were there.

This month ...

june and july memories

The cicadas have finally started making their little chirps (quite noisy little creatures really) and the temperatures are soaring. Europe had a heatwave too and the world just seems to be going crazy! Take care in the heat.

a day in ueno

Hi everyone, how’s it going? It’s sakura season in Tokyo right now, so I’m being more active than I have been since Christmas and New Year. I’m a person that loves to stay at home by nature but on occasion has been known to venture out. This weekend we went to the Ueno and Yanaka areas.

First off, we stopped by Guruatsu, a lovely little vegetarian (perhaps even vegan ?) cafe which also specialises in muffins (which were amazing and I really do recommend – not at all overly sweet and very flavourful with a lovely firm texture in ...

loving hut – tokyo, japan

I’ve realised recently that I have ridiculously long arms, like an orangutan (I’m getting a red line under this word and I don’t know why) so I had to cut them out of the photo. They are too distracting.

Anyway, enough about me (it never is) and more about the food. I went to Loving Hut in Jimbocho with my husband. We didn’t go for the lunchtime buffet, but I think we would next time, we went for dinner instead. I think it’s only open on Saturdays, at select times, so do check that it will be open if you ...
