22.12.25

My friend picked me up and we went to Park Cakes in Oldham. When I’d seen her the other day, I told her I’d never been and she told me we needed to rectify that. I said if I didn’t get to go in 2025 that the year would be ruined. We tried to go last Friday at 10:30ish but there was queue (around 40 people) and she didn’t have time to wait so we abandoned it. This time, we got there at around 9:45 and the queue was even bigger! It opened at ten and there were already around ...

20.12.25

Back in Manchester and my skin is really dry because of the central heating. I don’t want to moan but it’s getting on my nerves. I’ve got a poorly back. I hurt it the day before I flew to the UK, so that was a great 15 hour flight. (As a side note with the flight, I’d been put down as vegan so I wasn’t allowed milk with my coffee (JAL). However, they messed up and gave me the incorrect snack, a custard bread thing, which I shoved down me as soon as I got it so they couldn’t take ...

Chicago, Nashville, Memphis_part 2

Nashville: segment 1

The point of the holiday was to go to Nashville. My mum loves country music and had always wanted to go, so why not? How selfless I am. Well, there had to be something in it for me (apart from seeing my mum), so we also planned to go and see WEEZER. That’s why we had to leave Chicago so soon but I’m getting ahead of myself.

The second part of the 16th saw us in Nashville. We went by plane and it was all very smooth, landed in Nashville about 16:30ish. Got an Uber to the ...

Matsumoto + Lake Suwa – Feb ’24: part three

It doesn’t really warrant a part three, but the last post was picture heavy, so I’ve split it.

Before breakfast I went down to the onsen and it was just me!

Breakfast was amazing. The lady was talking to me, asking about what I eat/don’t eat and said that it was helpful eating katsuo dashi. So, if you can be flexible in Japan, they can usually offer you something inline with what you can eat – it’s a different debate about whether you should have to be flexible but I will be, so it was good enough for me.

We ...

Matsumoto + Lake Suwa – Feb ’24: part two

Lake Suwa doesn’t sound great in English (especially if you’re used to the water in England at the moment), better to go with the Japanese name, Suwa-ko.

We arrived fairly early and it was cold! No odd socks today, I had thermal leggings on. We took the local train from Matsumoto (half the price and only about 15 minutes longer – who’s winning?) and got off at Shimo-Suwa Station. We practically ran to get coffee and a piece of banana bread – really nice because it wasn’t overly sweet.

I don’t know when I started liking shrines so much and ...
