Bye Bye January 2024

Bye January, the month that promises so much and hello February, the month that makes me realise that the promises were all empty.

Kasai Rinkai has loads of daffodils out at the moment near the big wheel.

We got a new futon! I don’t want to be dramatic, but when we first moved here, we bought a very cheap futon and have been using it for the last 7 years. When I say it was flat, I mean, it was almost pointless sleeping on it, we probably would have felt just the same level of comfort sleeping on the floor! ...

an autumn day: ochanomizu + todai

I’ve lived in Tokyo for about 7 and a half years and I’d never been to Ochanomizu before. My husband had an appointment in the area and I went to meet him. As you can see from the pictures, if you like gingko, it’s the place to be.

We trotted to Yushima Seido, a Confucian temple focused on learning – there are lots of universities in the area.

Then we headed over to Kanda Shrine. It was very busy. Both are definitely worth a visit.

It was quite late by this point, so we headed off for curry at Ethiopia ...

Weezer: Zepp DiverCity Tokyo, Odaiba 2nd August 2023 JAPAN

Weezer have been in Japan! They played three shows: Fuji Rock, Osaka and Tokyo. I went to the Tokyo show but also saw Rivers in Hiroshima. I wish I had gone to the Osaka show too, but I didn’t want to do Tokyo to Hiroshima to Tokyo to Osaka to Tokyo.

They played Tokyo last night (02.08.23) in Odaiba. We were very close to the front and we weren’t allowed to take photos whilst they were playing so not much variety unfortunately and most of the pictures I’ve screen shotted from my husband’s video.

They played some amazing songs! ...

summer is kakigori in sunamachi ginza

Summer felt like it had well and truly hit Tokyo this Sunday. Temps were at 32ºC, feeling like 35ºC!! We’ve had to cave and put the aircon on. I feel very sorry for those people who don’t have aircon or can’t afford to run it.

We headed over to Sunamachi Ginza Shopping District again and had intended to get ice cream again. When we got to the shop though it was full, so we trotted on up to 焼きそば・かき氷専門店 GOFUKU. There was a queue and we ummed and ahhed about joining said queue in the (did I mention how ...

june memories 2023

june memories

The Rainy season in Kanto started on the 8th June this year but we haven’t had much rain. We’ve had lots of overcast days but also days with nice blue skies. The hydrangeas have been out in full force with all their pretty blues, purples, pinks and whites.

Some of my husband’s family came to visit Japan this June, so we met up with them when they were in Tokyo. We took them to Asakusa and had wonderful gelato at I’m mikan. I had a citrus flavour and milk – both were really good. My husband asked ...
