june memories

The Rainy season in Kanto started on the 8th June this year but we haven’t had much rain. We’ve had lots of overcast days but also days with nice blue skies. The hydrangeas have been out in full force with all their pretty blues, purples, pinks and whites.

Some of my husband’s family came to visit Japan this June, so we met up with them when they were in Tokyo. We took them to Asakusa and had wonderful gelato at I’m mikan. I had a citrus flavour and milk – both were really good. My husband asked what the specialty flavour of the shop was, which the lady managed to answer with a straight face, ‘mikan’.

We went for a coffee at Deux Kokiriko・ドゥーこきりこ where the gentleman running it is 92 years old! He only offered hot coffee but it was great and he gave us a little biscuit each. He’d been to Italy so was interested in talking to us.

Oh look, it’s gelato again. This time we were in Minamisuna and at Gelateria KARASU. Again, great gelato, great prices and the lady serving was very friendly. I had three flavours this time – ume, choc mint and corn. The corn was really good.

We then trotted up to Sunamachi Ginza Shopping District which has a proper Japan feel about it which is hard to come by in Tokyo. Lots of little shops and eateries and gives you a little feel of being in the Japanese countryside.

It was a busy month for people visiting. A friend of my husband’s and her husband came to Japan and we went for okonomiyaki with them and then pancakes.

His relatives were back in Tokyo so we went for galettes, a walk around Yasukuni Shrine at night and then for a drink. Three ginger ales and 1 beer – ¥6,500. Unbelievable!

Last but not least, Chichibu ♡
