summer is kakigori in sunamachi ginza

Summer felt like it had well and truly hit Tokyo this Sunday. Temps were at 32ºC, feeling like 35ºC!! We’ve had to cave and put the aircon on. I feel very sorry for those people who don’t have aircon or can’t afford to run it.

We headed over to Sunamachi Ginza Shopping District again and had intended to get ice cream again. When we got to the shop though it was full, so we trotted on up to 焼きそば・かき氷専門店 GOFUKU. There was a queue and we ummed and ahhed about joining said queue in the (did I mention how hot it was?) heat.

The lady took our order whilst we waited which in total was about 30 mins. There was some shade and some benches but the queue was quite long, so wear a hat or bring a parasol if it’s hot.

We got called into the shop and you pay for your order in advance.

I had melon. It was really good. You pour the melon onto the kakigori as show in the middle picture, then in the third picture, after I’d eaten some of the milk ice, there were pieces of melon and cream hidden in the centre. It wasn’t very sweet and you could really taste the melon.

My husband had brown sugar panna cotta which had little pieces of panna cotta in the middle. His was sweeter than mine but not sickly.

When we left, the staff were all really nice and said thank you to us and the lady came out with us to bid us farewell.

Next time I want to try maybe grapefruit or strawberry.

Hoping you had a great weekend,
Emily
