国内旅行: Tokyo to Hagi 4of6

We’re still in Matsue and today we headed to the Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum. I’d heard of him but never read any of his works (still haven’t but intend to) but it was still very interesting. The pictures below are of his old residence which is beautiful but freezing. Discounts for ‘foreigners’ as well. I always wonder how people can tell?

After the museum, we strolled over to Horikawa Sightseeing Boat. You can see from the picture of the street above that it was a wet day – it was chucking it down and I wasn’t looking forward to sitting on a boat in that. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It had a little roof (that could be lowered to go under bridges!) and kotatsu! I love kotatsu and live in ours in the winter. It was a highlight.

It was just us on the boat with the guide. They tell you about the history and sights of Matsue and are very knowledgable. Available in at least Japanese and English.

It was time to wave bye-bye to Matsue and onto Sakaiminato. It’s home to Mizuki Shigeru’s manga ‘Gegege no Kitaro’ aka ゲゲゲの鬼太郎 which I’d never heard of before. We went to the Mizuki Shigeru Museum and they also knew I was foreign. I just don’t know how they do it but I got a discount, so it’s not all bad.

Looking at these pictures, you’d think the place was deserted and this would be very fair to say. At night it was even more so but they do a little illumination show which was good to see.

There aren’t many places to eat and lots closed really early – 5pm! My husband loves fish, so he wanted to try some whilst we were there.

That was day four. Thanks for reading!
