are you sociable? part 2

9th May 2024

I like spending time on my own – I really enjoy my own company. I also like meeting other people or being in a crowd, but ultimately I prefer being solitary. When I do interact with people, one of the most distressing (I feel like that is a really dramatic word but it fits) things is when you don’t align well. It really drains me when the conversation feels like a push-pull interaction. You kind of get each other, but not really and you just don’t fit. I’m feeling like that today. My battery has gone from 100% to about 33% and it’s only just lunchtime…

All my hobbies are solitary:
– reading
– sewing
– cooking
– studying (you could argue and I would also, that studying languages shouldn’t be solitary. I often say that I learn Japanese as if it’s a dead language. I am a bit better with Italian and talking to people)
– blogging
– walking
– listening to LBC (a talk radio station)

Is there anything fundamentally wrong with this? I honestly don’t know. My husband is the complete opposite, I guess opposites attract and all that. I don’t think anyone would say it’s weird to like being around people all the time but I think I would be considered weird in liking being solitary.

Thoughts?

Emily
