I’ve come back to Tokyo after two months in Manchester to too much food. We already had too much food when I left, but now we have even more.
One of my aims for this year is to eat down our food supplies (read hoard). In modern life many of us have everything we need and much more. Many of us live in a world of abundance. Yet at the same time, there are many in our societies who have too little and need more.
We rarely waste food. I was brought up by my mum who was very good at not wasting food. However, having piles of food around the house is not ideal either.
I’m hoping this year I can crack on with eating our stocks, getting rid of any food that’s been lurking around for too long and start afresh with having enough but not too much.
problems to address
I like to order from a zero waste website but I always order a lot to avoid excess packaging. I order from a website that tackles food loss but they sell these items in big amounts. I also like to have items in that I know we will use such as pasta and tinned tomatoes. Living abroad also means that when we visit home or someone visits us, we stock up on our favourites. We then have to store all this food in our small apartment, so I think this is something we need to stop doing.
Time will tell but I’m putting it out there in the hopes I stop the monster within!
How are you with stockpiling food?
