sewing round up 2023

I know, it’s a lazy way to do it and this year I’ll try and post individual items but here’s what I sewed last year – not too much but all right. The face is my concentrating face.

Sew DIY – Lou Box Top (Scoop neck, curved hem)
I love these patterns because they are drafted for a height of 5’10” and I’m 5’9″ so no need to add any length.

I made it in a Japanese, gingham linen from Miss Matatabi. Trousers from Zara, bought about 13 years ago (aargh!) and shoes are Converse Ballet which are so hard to get hold of but are my favourite. I call this my ice cream outfit because I think it makes me look like one.

The Assembly Line – Box Pleat Dress
I love this dress but not sure about where the hem hits. I added length because they are drafted for 168cm and I’m about 175cm but maybe I wish I hadn’t. I love TAL patterns – easy to make, they come together really well and they are simple but cleverly designed.

I made this in a – I have no idea – but definitely a poly blend that I’ve had lurking about for ages from Kamakura Swany.

Tights from Tabio – they are the best and they don’t slip down.

Kana’s Standard i – A – a
I definitely added length to this one – about 15cm if I remember rightly. I didn’t think I would like this (why I decided to make it then, I’m not sure). I will add bias around the neck on the next make. I also messed up the ruffles when I’d lengthened the arms as I didn’t lengthen them accordingly but they look fine I think.

Made in an Indian cotton from Merchant and Mills (my favourite place to get fabric) bought ages ago. It started life as a skirt but I didn’t like it so thought I’d practise this pattern.

Trousers from M&S.

Kana’s Standard i – D – a
I lengthened the dress and the bodice AND the straps. I don’t like the lengthen straps so would just keep as is next time. I also didn’t expect to like this but I really do. I particularly like it with my Cos cardigan pictured in the last two photos but unfortunately that’s still in Manchester – you can’t have it all, can you?

The fabric is a beautiful cotton sateen from nani IRO which I’ve also had for ages but I’m glad I saved it for this.

Here’s to more sewing in 2024!

What am I listening to? Weezer, of course.
