Manchester: Castlefield Viaduct, pizza and Manchester Museum

Back in town and today we had booked to go to the Castlefield Viaduct. I used to think Castlefield was miles away and would refuse to go to that part of Manchester. It’s about a 15 minute walk – how lazy!

You don’t have to book if you don’t want to do the tour, you can just go. We wanted to do the tour (only about 5/10 mins) and there were some people who just joined on the day. It’s aiming for similar to The High Line in New York. The lady giving the tour said part of the purpose of the space was to bring nature to urban areas as most people live in that type of place – I thought that was a great way of putting it.

edit: a very timely article in The Guardian about this very topic.

Views of the ever-changing Manchester skyline.

Lunch was Rudy’s Pizza. It was good and it was busy! Manchester was jammed-packed with police for the Tory Conference. I was sad to not get to see the protests, but I saw clips online.

After pizza we went down to Manchester Museum. Wow, the university bit has changed so much – much better than when I went. I would have loved to have gone to uni there now but I think I would have absolutely no money! The museum was great, it’s the first time I’d been in ages and it had been done up. If you like mummies, there is lots to see and I liked their new take on it. The building is gorgeous as well – some great architecture in Manchester. I love Manchester, I just hate the weather!
