Another 2 months, nothing productive done as usual. I start the same way every year – full of great ambitions and hopes for the year ahead and then waste my time like I have an infinite amount of it. Is that just me?
jan + feb memories
I went to see Scott Murphy + special guest who turned out to be Rivers Cuomo. This didn’t happen in either Jan or Feb, but I’ve not written about it and I wanted to. It was Nov last year. Actually, it was on the day I was due to fly to Manchester but I changed it so I could go and I definitely made the right decision. There’s just something about being in the same country as the person you like.
Speaking of Manchester, it was cold this year!
I had some nice food out in Manchester. First up was Sicilian NQ and I really liked the vibe. They had cute little cannoli.
Next is Pollen Bakery. I’m a bit of a hipster (could you guess?) and I loved the aesthetic of this place. The coffee was good and that’s what I’d go back for. The pastries are massive.
Then we have a pub lunch – cheese and onion pie, mushy peas and chips.
Back to Japan and my journey to the west.
We went to Kagurazaka to check out a recycle shop. I saw on the map pictures of Akagi Shrine which looked a bit different to other shrines, so we had a look.
march wish list
- Study hard for N1
- Start studying Italian every week (it’s gone from daily to weekly)
- tidy the back room
- cherry blossoms!
media consumed
- Nick Abbot (radio) – I never miss a show
- Ghost Story by Peter Straub (book) – I was happy I read it and got into the characters
- Falling Slowly by Anita Brookner (book) – very descriptive with in-depth character analysis
- Mystery Road: Origin (TV) – Australian series with focus on colonisation
- The English (TV) – continuing with the colonisation theme, really good series
- SZNZ: Winter by Weezer (music) – love it (not as good as autumn and summer for me though, better than spring).
That’s been my 2023 so far, hope you’re doing ok and having a good time up to now. Let me know what you’ve been up to.
