first weekend in april 2022

Saturday was cleaning day. I have never lived anywhere like Tokyo when it comes to dust piling up so quickly.

The weather was absolutely awful on Sunday – the day we had planned to go on a last cherry blossom walk, so that got cancelled and we just stayed in instead. It’s a good job we’d been out early in the week when the weather was fine.

Tomioka Hachiman Shrine in 門前仲町・Monzen-nakacho. My friend was telling me someone got stabbed to death here and it looks like they did.

We had a little hanami party here whilst my husband ...

my tokyo hotel quarantine experience – feb 2022

I’ve been in the UK for the past couple of months, so when it was time to return to Tokyo, I knew I’d have to do a 6 day hotel quarantine.

I was at Villa Fontaine Haneda which is a brand new hotel and is right at the airport. It was a realy lovely hotel.

The food looks really good but it really wasn’t after day one. It all tasted the same and was practically the same each day. My husband ended up dropping food off for me and I am so grateful that he did. These are the vegan ...

harajuku Ikea and shinjuku cat in october

We had to go to the Omotesando Apple shop the other day so we decided to walk down to Harajuku. We did go looking at Eataly but it was just so expensive! ¥1,980 for a margarita pizza? Instead we went to Ikea and had a set each which I think it came to under ¥1,200 for both of us. My husband had fried fish TUNNBRÖD and I had veggie sausage TUNNBRÖD, each served with plant balls and 1 drink. I really like the veggie sausages they do and the plant balls, so I was happy and we managed to get ...

october means pumpkins in tokyo in autumn

Happy October everyone! I don’t think October means pumpkins for most of the residents of Tokyo, but maybe some lost souls out there.

We went to Yumenoshima Tropical Greenhouse Dome, which we have been to before and you can find the post here. Looking back at that post, I’ve taken pretty much the exact same pictures, so maybe just read this one.

It wasn’t empty like last time and you had to reserve a time slot. The photographers were out in FULL force – we saw children being paraded around dressed as pumpkins, witches and Snow White. That’s ...

how I start the day: walking in Tokyo

My husband and I went for a walk this morning. I woke up at 6:45 and and the weather was beautiful – blue skies and big, white, fluffy clouds. We got ready and decided to head down to the river.

We stayed out for about 45 minutes and saw maybe 5 other people trotting about.

The river was calm but high and we had good visibility looking out onto Tokyo. I’d like to say that I start my mornings this way every day, but I don’t.

Of course, not everything is perfect and we saw this dumped on the steps. ...
