NEW ENGLAND AND THE HUDSON VALLEY tour: day five |Boston – Salem – Portland

Welcome to day five of the New England and the Hudson Valley tour diary, Boston – Salem – Portland.

Boston

It was an early start – leaving at 7:45am, so we were up, showered, dressed and ready for breakfast for about 7ish. Today we were going to Salem!

Salem

I’d wanted to visit Salem for a long time, probably since watching Hocus Pocus (which was on TV a lot whilst we were in the US). We were due to have a tour which I was really excited about. Unfortunately, the lady who was supposed to do the tour was ill and had sent a replacement and he wasn’t very good. He thought for some reason that he wasn’t supposed to mention witches, so you can probably kind of imagine what a tour of Salem is like without the mention of witches… Luckily, Nancy our main tour guide had information on hand after he left and could tell us what we wanted to know.

We didn’t have too much time in Salem.

Nubble Light, Maine

We got to go and see the Nubble Light and then at the hotel, we had a talk for the then lighthouse keeper, Matt Rosenberg which was such a highlight. He gave a presentation and his wife was on hand to show us pictures of his work.

Portland, Maine

Portland was a cool place. The weather was a little bit too like Manchester for me though.

I hoping to get the remaining days all written up soon. Wish me luck!
